From what I read, most folk do this Corbett from Glen Clova, walking up from the hotel and round Loch Wharral. I read some reports on this hill where it is done via the Shieling of Saughs. This looked a good route but I wanted to include some other features, so I headed up from Hunthill, taking a slightly different approach.
Glen Lethnot is one of the Angus Glens which is approached from the village of Edzell. Near the top of the glen, a dead end road heads out to Hunthill Lodge where cars can be parked.
With the dog. I headed up by the Water of Saughs in spectacular weather.
Corrie na Berran.
As you reach the head of the lower glen, you have a choice. Straight ahead for the zig zags up towards the Sheiling, or west to the Shank.
A rickety bridge crosses into the Shank of Donald Young. This was as far as we got after being forced to retreat during the winter.
The Shank of Donald Young is a nice place. Named after a Cateran killed in the 1700's, it is a small climbing glen with waterfalls.
The Burn of Duskintry.
As we reached the first hill, an un-named 657m top, we came across this old ruin. Maybe a Whisky Bothy?
Just aswell it was dry, thsi was serious bog country between here, Gibs Knowe, and Cairn Trench.
And then I came across this. A double electric fence which ran all the way from at least White Hill over the hills and beyond The Goet. A shocking invasion and almost impossible to get through. There was only one opening at the summit of Cairn Trench.
Looking back from where I'd come.
Amazingly, I came across this Land Rover on the summit of Cairn Trench. Maybe it was fence contractors, but I seen no-one. If Land Rover wasn't in such a state just now, I'd have sold as an advert to them!!
That fence just went on and on.
And then we were on the summit.
Mount Keen, and that fence again.
I headed back to the 823m top and descended to the Sheiling of Saughs. A basic grass roofed shelter.
On the way back down, further evidence of the vandalism which goes on up here. These machines were laying a track/road all the way to the Sheiling. It was wide enough for two vehicles to pass. I passed a lot of construction stuff.
With that junk behind us we continued in great weather.
Looking down the glen as we neared the car.
