Could we be down to 282 Munros?

Could we be down to 282 Munros?

Fisherfield Munro set to be demoted

Dropping like flies over last year or two. If accepted by the SMC, the Fisherfield 6 will no longer be 6 Munros.

No guarantee that the SMC will play ball with the Munro Soc. Uncharted territory, interesting times. Still definitely 283 Munros in the list at present. More analysis here:

It's such a tiny margin, can't the cairn count as part of the height? What if one of the rocks of the cairn was glued to the ground?

The Fisherfield 6 round can still be the Fisherfield 6 round - if only 5 are Munros, there are still 6 hills. I would think that most doing the round from the north would still include Chlaidheimh, especially since it tends to be a route tackled when hillwalkers have more experience.

After all, the Five Sisters of Kintail only has 3 Munros (and not that long ago only had 2).

I've done Beinn a'Chlaidheimh twice as a single hill day - once because of blizzards, the other because of laziness

I think we are probably singing from the same hymn sheet Alison - they are just hills after all

Having just completed all 6 a few weeks ago, I think it would be pointless to miss it out and head straight for Sgurr Ban. It's a classic horseshoe walk and BAC deserves to be included, Munro or not.

I was hoping it was the In Pinn that had been demoted. No such luck ... :( :D

Ah well, if they do demote Beinn a'Chlaidheimh, my Corbett tally will have gone up by 1. Every cloud, and all that.

Why don't these guys just do a blitz of all borderline Munros, get the SMC to do a final set of tables, and put the matter to rest.

Then we can just wait 'til sea levels rise for further revisions.

Quite odd that with 141 Munros done, I expected to do my half-way 142 at the weekend but might already be there!

I thought that that was what they're doing? But it takes time and money, so it's being done over several years.
