Editing a post and portrait/landscape?

Editing a post and portrait/landscape?

Postby gaffr » Mon Apr 25, 2016 8:01 am

Hello,
Is it possible to edit one of your own Posts?....can't see any edit button to use for this.
Do Portrait images get altered into Landscape when uploaded through a posting?
Just noticed that the Edit button has popped up on this wee post? but not on the post where I wanted to alter.

I think you lose the ability to edit a post, once someone else has replied/commented. :)

Not sure about that, as I can still edit my Sgurr a' Mhaoraich report which has a few replies. I was wondering if I was going mad, though, as I wanted to edit another report after writing it, but couldn't see the Edit button. But now its there. Must be some other criteria I don't understand! As for the portrait/landscape thing, as I host my images elsewhere (Flickr mostly) that is where this is set. Not sure what happens with uploaded posts, but you'd expect it would take the format of the picture uploaded.

You can always edit your walk reports.

Posts in the discussion forums can only be edited for errors for a brief time; this prevents people changing what they said when others have responded to them (which can lead to all sorts of shenanigans!)

Fine on the discussion edits....you have just got to be fleet-fingered.
As far as the uploading of images go. Do the ones 'made' in the camera Portrait mode always end up in the Landscape mode when uploaded here?

Sorry I hadn't answered that. No - there should be info in the photo file that tells which way up it goes. Portrait photos should work fine if the camera copes with the configuration...

What may be happening is that your computer is using the EXIF data recorded by your camera to automatically rotate the view it gives you of the image, but it's not actually changing the orientation, so when you upload it here you still see the original orientation.

Out of interest I'll see what happens when a landscape and a portrait image is sent.

Odd two landscapes pop up and this time the correct orientation for the portrait one...?
