I wonder what was at work hollowing this dead tree trunk in Glen Garry last week. Any ideas?

Very possibly Charles T, although the hole is about 10cm+ wide and I thought that might be a bit too big for a GSW.

That could be grey squirrels then. They do take over nest holes and boxes, gnawing the edges away to enlarge them. BTW metal plates don't deter them. Take care if inspecting, more than one naturalist has been bitten by an angry squirrel.
