This post has been superceded - in future walk reports winners will be chosen independently by Webtogs - see this post.

It's getting pretty tricky choosing the walk reports of the month - so we're asking for your help from this month!

Please nominate reports you think should be considered for walk report of the month for September on this thread - and it'll help us to find the cream of the crop. Don't nominate your own though

To help ensure a spread of winners, we're also introducing a rule in that reports are only eligible where the poster has not previously won one of prizes with a report in the last 6 months.... note that due to the nature of the prize, only posters with a UK postal address can win. And the report must be posted in September.

Nominate away....

And one last thing, when writing walk reports, please remember to tag them with the Walkhighlands route description and the hills included - otherwise they cannot be found by people researching those hills / walks. If your route roughly follows a Walkhighlands route it is quicker to do this first as the hills will be filled in automatically. Even quicker - choose 'add your own walk report' from a route page and all these things are then prefilled. Cheers.

Hi Paul :D
Just read your announcement and I'd like to ask about one thing. As you said:
Paul Webster wrote:To help ensure a spread of winners, we're also introducing a rule in that reports are only eligible where the poster has not previously won one of prizes with a report in the last 6 months....

Well, I must admit my memory is good but short and I can hardly remember who won the prize 6 or 5 months back. Is there any way to access that information on site? This would prevent me (and any other members) from nominating a report that has no chance to win anyway as the author just recently has...
One way to check that would be to have a look in monthly information e-mails, but sadly I don't keep them for that long :(
Cheers

Must admit, think this is a great idea Paul, also seems to be good that you have said that winners in the last 6 months will not be included, but hope this does not stop any winners in the last 6 months submitting a TR.

Good point. How about a single sticky topic that lists all WOTM prize winners?

One way would be to click on Paul's profile. Pretty much the only things that appear in his walk report diary are the report of the month threads.

A good idea Paul.

However this could introduce a bit of a bias to reports submitted at the beginning of the month. For example how many nominations would Mountainlove's excellent and deserving Everest Base Camp report have got given that it was posted late on the 30th?

I suppose having nominations will help Paul & Helen cut out the chaff & they can focus on the nominated reports and all the recent ones. But it may annoy someone who has lots of nominations & still doesn't win. Suppose you're never going to please all the people all the time...

Thanks all. Yes, it is true - I only venture around by helicopter :shh:  . I'm afraid that the walk descriptions have to count as my 'sort of' walk reports - would seem odd to be posting the same pics!

I agree Alasdair, the number of nominations won't count for anything, it's just to help make sure we don't miss anything really and to make sure we are looking at the 'best of' at the month end. I reserve the right to nominate reports submitted right at the end of the month!! You are right that some might get annoyed, but as you say you can't please everyone at once. I wish we had lots of prizes 8)
