On this day the office was one of the Glen Etive Corbetts, the one in question being Beinn Mhic Chasgaig. The forecast was promising with bright spells in the afternoon for which i would be on the summit for and enjoying views to Buachaille Etive Mor and all the other fine mountains in this area. This was my plan anyway, but as we all know it rarely goes to plan when you're relying on the weather. When i set off it was damp and dull with the occasional break in the cloud to reveal a bit of blue sky, so i carried on in hope.My original plan was to follow the path up the Allt Coire Ghiubhasan and head up from the south east, but on passing BMC i decided to try heading up from the south east and make my way through the crags. This for me was a difficult route and after pulling myself up several ledges with the help of my ice axe at times i decided it was getting too dangerous , i was only a short distance to the ridge when i gave up. At this point a descended a short distance and made my way round to head up from the south. This route was steep but not as many crags and i eventually made it to the ridge. It was during this that i got the best of the weather but by the time i reached the ridge a big dark cloud came over and remained for the rest of the walk.Once on the ridge the snow was soft and deep in places making the going tough. Once on the summit i got a few photos as the cloud broke then descended south the pick up the path that took me me back to the start.

The suggested SMC route in the Corbett book is via the right of the large gully, which doesn't look that far off what you did. Look a good wee hill but your report is a good warning of how steep that ground is. Was the gate across the bridge open or did you have to circumvent this?

Yes i saw that in the book and was to me my original route, that was the route i roughly came down. I had looked at coming down the gully but it was pretty rocky lower down. The gate was open, i was also up this was in July and the gate was open then.I think it stays open now as there are waymarked signs to avoid going through the grounds of the cottage.
