Hello/Suilven + Assynt

Postby Borderhugh » Mon Feb 06, 2012 11:41 am

Hi there!

I am new to this posting lark but am a big fan of this website.

I am planning to hit Assynt in the next forthnight by myself and wanted to get the low down on Suilven.

I have read most of the posts but wanted to get a feel for this mountain in winter.

Even if there is no snow, is it advisable to take crampons and a pick axe?

Unless you want to do some road repairs, an ice axe would be lighter and more fitting... ice axes and crampons are for ice, not snow; sounds like you maybe lack the experience to go there alone.

Sounds about right, you don't just 'hit' Assynt- it might bite your ass  Fine walking in summer, entirely different prospect in winter. Give it some respect if you intend to collide into it !
