Aurora Borealis from the comfort of my back yard

Aurora Borealis from the comfort of my back yard

Sarah and I couldn't believe our luck this evening as we spent 30 minutes in the back garden watching one of natures greatest shows (in the company of two huge jack rabbits)

Even the lights of the city didn't stop it, what a fantastic evening in this incredible country :D

No, I'm not jealous, not at all....

Amazing stuff Chris. This was one the forecasters didn't get. One of my Flickr contacts got a faint shot from near here but the space weather forecasters thought activity should be low as the big sun spots are on the far side of the sun just now. Would have been even better out in the sticks.

BTW had our first bit of snow here in Banchory - only a couple of cm but better than nothing :)

I used the Geophysical Institute website to determine if it was coming (apparently they are usually pretty good) they were very accurate with this one saying it would apppear strongly then move North which is exactly what happened.

You're not kidding Gammy, that was one of the greatest things I have ever seen, and something I have wanted to see for many years

Don't I know it RicKamila  I tried to catch the slightest glimpse of green in Aberdeenshire about a year ago before the cloud covered over, this was my first and will remain the most memorable I'm sure

These were my exact words many years ago Mountainstar, last night I actually remembered the moment I said them as I stood there dumbfounded by my first experience of this incredible phenomenon

I saw a bit of it from Broadhill in Aberdeen just a few weeks ago.. Wasn't nearly as good as the show you get in the country though..

Those pics are great Chris, lucky lucky

Broadhill?? That's down Pittodrie way isn't it?

If it is, whats it like for viewing down that way? Did the light pollution affect it much or was it dark enough? I've always thought that if I couldnt head out of town to see it, I'd go to Donmouth.
