The concert is actually on the summit of Ben Nevis. Mike Peters aka singer from The Alarm for those of us old enough to remember, will be performing.

From Facebook:
Events for Charities are pleased to announce we will be hitting the road in the summer visiting 6 towns along the way before we take part in the climb to the summit of Ben Nevis as Part as Nevis Rocks taking place on Saturday 25th August 2012.

With a gig on the summit of Ben Nevis, and the main after show event taking place in the Nevis centre. This is all part of the Love Hope & Strength Foundation that has various events in Cluding Mount Everest and Kilimanjaro in recent years.

Events for Charities are following the Road to Ben Nevis (Fort William) from Glasgow to the Summit and putting on events along the way to raise awareness and also funds for Love Hope & Strength Foundation along the way.

The Events for Charities team will be collecting sponsorship for our journey to the top of the UK’s Highest Mountain before the event and also along the way.

We will be active on Twitter during the event bringing you updates of the events and also our progress on sponsorship and leaving our mark on the summit of Ben Nevis.

We have confirmed the venues for the event taking place across the west of Scotland on the 19th to 24th August before Nevis Rock with Love Hope & Strength Foundation on the 25th August. Venues are as follows :-

19th August Glasgow Venue tbc
Special guest & bands / artists tbc

20th August Balloch The Doghouse

And so more totally unsuitable people are lured into a high mountain environment... Surely the logistics, organisation and policing problems (i.e. stopping people falling off the sides) are enough to make this obviously a ridiculously bad idea? Have the organisers ever been there? Have they consulted the local police?Have they arranged toilet facilities? It sounds like the kind of idea that occurs to someone on the upswing of their bipolar disorder, and not something that should be encouraged on here. One bad turn in the weather and you have a disaster.

I did ask them via FB if they had the permission of the John Muir Trust and apparently they do.

Doesn't take much for the JMT to agree and it is a circus on the summit anyway.

So much of our great art, music, literature and science has been the result of people of people on the upswing of theor bipolar disorder :-)

I think for better or worse most people accept the ben in summer will be host to all sorts of wierd and wonderful activities. for the most part these involve people who would not usually be found on tue hills and for the most part they get up and down safely.

However, i do have serious reservations about events like the 3 peaks and the environmental impact they have on the area, even more so for the poor people of seathwaite and the like. but what is the solution? Limiting numbers on the hill,l?jmt saying who can go up and who cant?

Its a tricky one, as like with the charity holidayers, you come across as a cantankerous and churlish old sod if you raise any objection to anything that is done in a good cause.

When we were on the Ben in July 2008 we were serenaded at the summit by 'extreme cellists' raising money for spinal injuries. :D Got chatting to them on the way down and reckon they were better equpped than many of the other several hundred punters up there that day! :?
