Albino Fox (?) near Duag Bridge

Albino Fox (?) near Duag Bridge

Postby andyp » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:32 pm

Snapped this strange looking fox whilst walking from River Douchary area through to Duag Bridge as part of the CWT. Is it an albino or does anyone have any other ideas?

Strange looking beastie, but seems to have a very faint colour ( unless it is just dirty) which would mean it simply has less melanin rather than a total lack of it. Whatever, it would make a nice hat. What is CWT?

I think I can say with some confidence that this is a chupacabra.

Perhaps he is just a very elderly fox, and has become grizzled with age. Was he complaining about how things were better in his young day? Muttering about getting into the cinema for a jam jar (but that was in old money, yes, old money, yes...)?

Cracking spot and shot.
More likely, I think, to be leucistic than albino. Either way very rare spot.

Some interesting comments -thanks guys. I have had to google some of them as I had no idea what you were on about (melanin, leucistic, chupacabra)

Apologies for the acronym Caberfeidh, it is the Cape Wrath Trail.

Thanks walk aboot - I didn't know I'd captured it until blowing the picture up back home on the PC as I was only using a very basic point and shoot camera!.

I had many other close encounters with wild creatures where I didn't manage to get a photo so it was nice to get this one (e.g. a grass snake which I picked up thinking it was a stick when clearing a site to pitch my tent, a short eared owl which flew straight at me from out of the peat hags nearing the Cape Wrath lighthouse - nearly gave me a heart attack )
