Salomon Quest, leaking!

Salomon Quest, leaking!

Postby scoob999 » Sun Jun 17, 2012 10:18 am

Wore my salomon quest boots for the second time yesterday, and my feet were soaked!
Admittedly they have been long walks but at £150 i'm just a little bit dissapointed to say the least! :(
I have had goretex boots before, forrestry boots and ex army ones and i usually get a year from them before any leakage
Has anyone else had the same problem with these boots?

My Quests sprung a leak at the heel. Closer investigation revealed some grit on the inside of the boot which I assumed had punctured the membrane from the inside out. They had lasted about 3 years, several hundred if not a thousand miles I worked out. Comfy in the garden now :)

Replaced with the Cosmics, on my 2nd year with them, I clean them out carefully to ensure no grit. You live and learn I guess!

It was'nt grit this time mur :(

And it was'nt sweat either like the shop tried to say!
I wore them twice, similar distance about 17-18 miles once in the dry, once in the wet, with the same socks on
My feet never got wet on the dry walk but soaked on the wet one.
I got the shop to send them back to Salomon to see what they say.
just gonna get the ex army goretex socks now because i know they work, i've given up on goretex boots!

Update on my Cosmics. They started to leak too!

Traced it to the fold in the material just above the big toe area. After 'phoning Tiso's who told me Salomons have a 2 year warranty they suggested I take them in and they'd send to Salamon for investigation. (Still had the receipt and original box, lucky!)

Now seeing as there's a v2 Cosmic out, with a different, stronger, material where the natural fold is at the toe box, I guessed Salomon knew all about this problem. Sure enough, 3 weeks later Salomon have sent me a new pair of v2 Cosmics. :D

Mur, how have the V2 's held out on the waterproof front since last year?

Still going strong.

The v1's sprung a leak at the toe box where the material creases when walking. It was a suede type material that was in this area, so a bit soft and prone to damage as it turns out. On the v2's this suede has gone and is replaced with a tougher synthetic material which still creases but isn't wearing as aggressively.

Your doing better than me then. I bought the 4d2 s on Friday and wore them on Sunday to do the white mounth circuit and they leaked at the crease point above each big toe. I took them back to gooutdoors and they have sent them back to solamon for testing

Mine died yesterday.
Lacing eyelet snapped off, sole started to break and both boots leaked badly.
Returned to go outdoors today, will await the outcome.
I'm unlikely to wear another pair. They are very comfy but very fragile.

UPDATE: -

Gooutdoors phoned me today to inform me that Salomon have confirmed my Quest 4D 2 GTX boots are in fact leaking and that I can get a full refund.

Quite disapointing that they didnt even last one outing on the hills before failing.
