Tryfan Scramble

Tryfan Scramble

Postby Ibex » Tue Jul 17, 2012 11:57 am

Convinced the wife to let me go to Snowdonia this weekend.
Planning on doing Tryfan one of the days. Is the scramble up to the top there difficult?

Bear in mind i've done Striding Edge and Sharp Edge in the Lakes pretty easily.
I will be walking alone, so want to make sure before I go.

Cannot wait to get there! :D

If you've done Striding Edge and Sharp Edge, you should be OK. However, Tryfan north ridge is completely different in nature to those two - the ridge is much broader and there is a lot more scrambling involved. It's all fairly straightforward, but due to the breadth of the ridge, there is no one one single route up it, so if anything starts getting beyond you, just hunt around for an easier alternative.

The great thing about Tryfan is you can choose a route up that is as easy or as difficult as you like.

The north ridge is less exposed than Sharp Edge, the most exposed bit is stepping across the top of 'Adam & Eve', as they are the summit!

Enjoy, if you want more scrambling some of the early gullies above the Heather Terrace top out on the north ridge.

Or do Tryfan north ridge, down the south and work across onto Bristly Ridge on Glyder Fach and down Y Gribin...

Ok great! Can't wait.
My plan is to do Tryfan, Glyder Fach and Glyder Fawr, and maybe fit in Y Garn, if the weather and time are on my side.

Can't wait to get some pictures up there and bring them back! :D

Tryfans north face appears pretty straightforward and is to most people but its a bit of a maze and common sense is needed so be prepared to double back and try another route if your not comfortable with what you see.
Theres plenty of photo stops as well with the cannon , adam and eve plus cantilever stone on Glyders

Thanks clive. Thats a great link there and very helpful. Looking forward to getting some photo's of the cannon and cantaliever. Will attempt the 'freedom of Tryfan' when up there!

Really can't wait. The last 3 days at work this week is going to be tortureously slow!
