Walking in this fine weather

Walking in this fine weather

Postby wistyfields » Thu Aug 16, 2012 9:48 am

Hello - new to the forum but looking for advice. I was planning Carn Dearg, Carn Sgulain & A'Chailleach this Saturday and the weather looks...well...warm and humid. Is there weather when it's too hot for walking? There will be a warm breeze and a chance of rain...even a chance of storms but not sure what that would entail. Some advice would be great. Obviously lots of water would be a must but I don't fancy setting off on a long day out when it's really no advisable.

Can't see heat being a problem: MWIS are forecasting 12C on the summits and 10-20mph winds.
Might be cloudy and showery though.

Yes, it is possible to get heat exhaustion (yes, even in Scotchland the Dreich!), also eye problems from strong sunlight, particularly if reflected off water. Malignant sunburn can be very painful and debilitating, and of course with the hot weather come the biting insects. Pray for cloud and a strong breeze! I was at Loch Etive yesterday, there was a good strong breeze which kept the midgies away.

I climbed these 3 in August and there was a rough shooting party out. I left them alone and they left me alone, even though they crossed my path - I just waited until they had passed by.
