Event fabric - wear and tear

Event fabric - wear and tear

Postby Bonzo » Tue Sep 11, 2012 12:25 pm

My Montane Event fabric waterproof has started to show signs of serious wear and tear which appears to be caused by nothing more than the fabric on the inner arm brushing against the main body of the jacket.

The jacket is only two and a half years old and I've a feeling that, due to the thinness of the worn areas, that the garment will soon have the waterproof qualities of a sponge or may even split completely.

Not long to go methinks?

Has anyone else noticed this level of wear with Event fabric?

Cheers!

Is that rubbing off your bag strap?
Is the outer not just there to protect the waterproof material underneath?
I've only seen this happen to baselayer tops.

Meatball,

Not that I know of. I always make a special effort to put on\take off my rucsac without scraping against my waterproof.

There's also minor wear lower down on the inner arm where the rucsac straps go nowhere near so I'm not sure what's going on.

You're right about the baselayer comparison which suggests that the Event fabric may be too 'soft'?

I'll fire an email to Montane to what they think.

Cheers,

Bonzo

I'm thinking that it may well be an eVent fabric problem.

I bought my gf a womens Rab Vidda eVent jacket 2 xmas' back and she's been complaining over the summer about the apparent bobbling of the fabric too. :(

Aye, I have had troubles with the double layer event fabric..The triple layer seems to be far harder wearing though :)

That looks like wear from the buckles off your rucksack rubbing on the inside arm of your jacket. I tracked it down to a sharp edge on the buckle of my Berghaus rucksack which a wee bit of emery cloth smoothed. The jacket went on for years.

It's not the event membrane that's wearing, it's the face fabric Montane puts on top.
