About 2hrs 20 in a beaurocrat rep from British Transport Police suggesting that they will enforce trespassing laws and implement fines at drumochter etc. Suggesting major route amendments from normal paths etc I actually despaired.....

Have a listen.......

I can understand the BTP reps points but it also sounds like they have no understanding of the points made by the ramblers rep. 6 trains a day is not by any means a major danger and surely the BTP should maybe focus their efforts and attention more on the built up areas and major lines in the central belt and further south. I'm pretty sure there's more people being hit and killed by cars or having major accidents in the hills than those being hit by trains. Trains make alot of noise when coming along and lets be honest, the background noise in the wilder areas the line passes through doesn't muffle this sound.

As a suggestion though, surely at well known major crossing points the BTP or Network Rail could also put up the timetabling of when trains will be in that spot so people can roughly know trains will be passing through.

As always the the most important thing is if you're crossing the line be vigilant and sensible and don't take unnecessary risks.

Education and co-operation would work far better than prosecution otherwise you're just going to get into this situation of walking groups and the BTP bickering about the rights and wrongs of it and no-one wants that.

The British Transport Policeman has been in touch to ask us to clarify the previous thread on this. They have no issue with the formal crossing points at Drumochter/Dalwhinnie; the place where someone was arrested - and where there will be further enforcement - is on the approach to Ben Lui from Glen Lochy.
