Where do you leave your bike?

Where do you leave your bike?

There's a few Munros with long approaches that could be cycled to save time, is it OK to leave a bike in plain sight while you bag some hills? Any tips for stashing a bike?

Haven't had a problem leaving bike(s) in the Cairngorms before.

Leave it a bit off the path so it's not too obvious. Lying in heather is usually good. Use a light cable lock so you feel better. Won't stop a determined thief but will deter the opportunist.

Failing that leave it next to a better bike.

I always hid mine, and locked it - but always near a landmark so I could find it again..... :D

Always hide it and lock it to a fence or a tree, but somewhere you will find it. 8)

Tend to try to hide it if possible - carry a chain which is long enough to connect both wheels and frame as wheels are Q/R. Chain to something solid if possible, eg a tree, fencepost etc. I've also left my bike overnight sometimes to pick up at the end of a walk and then driven back to the start, eg if on a camping trip - in these cases I've hidden it better, eg in a forest. That said, I use an older MTB for this purpose. Good luck and hope you get good use of it - it does make quite a difference (although there are walking purists who would disagree  ) - cheers :)

I've always hid my bike in heather or anywhere away from the path abnd locked it . Chances are no1 would pinch it but would be a long and depressing walk back knowing your bike was gone for good. I still got a few outing to do with the bike so give me a shout any weekend. 8)

Usually leave it off the path in a hollow if possible away from eyesight. Lock it too just incase.
If you've got a GPS mark your position incase you get misplaced on the way back to your bike.

Like most others, just leave it off the path a bit, in heather if poss. Sometimes beside a bothy. Even forgotten to lock it sometimes, which shows that it pays not to have too good a bike - it's always been there when I've come back!
(I'll have to go touch wood now: I'll be leaving it this weekend. :( Well hidden, double locked, in a cave, sealed up. With CCTV, burglar alarm and electric fence. And booby traps. )

Cheers - parking next to a more expensive bike is plan A, loads of ideas for plan B too :D
