Glencoe Pine Martens?

Glencoe Pine Martens?

Postby Milesy » Fri Feb 22, 2013 2:58 pm

I will post a pic later but pretty high up on Stob Coire nan Lochan in the far left coire I could swear there was Pine Marten prints in the snow.

How high do these scamps come up? I thought they were forest critters?

As high as they can get, it would appear!

Collie dog I reckon, look way too large for a pine marten.

auch really? Even though the prints are so close together for two paws? There was no human prints anywhere near these. It was away to the far end of the coire part way up a snow field.

Looks a bit like a hare: only 4 toes showing whereas a pine marten should have 5, and not much gap between the pads. Did you see a running trail? The pattern is quite distinctive: http://s0.geograph.org.uk/photos/32/25/322562_0e936446.jpg

Yeah that was the pattern. Massive prints though! Normally a lot smaller
