Late February hill questions.

Late February hill questions.

Postby Meatball » Sat Feb 23, 2013 2:18 pm

Howdy folks,

I'm looking to see if people can give me a heads up on-
1. Is the path to Derry Lodge snow/ice free this weekend?
2. For those that have done it, how long does the 3 from the corrour station take and what conditions did you do it in, ie snow or summer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I cycled up to Derry on Friday night and back out on Sunday. There was still sections of snow/ice but mostly avoidable and certainly worth taking the bike. A sledge would have been no use.
However you won't get much past Derry Lodge on a bike, the consolation being that the snow is all very hard so is easy underfoot for making progress.

Corrour 3 took me just over 7 hrs in sept and I am sure the way things are on the hills just now it would still be 7hrs and that also included plenty photo stops. Colin

The Corrour 3 took me just over 8 hours but I wasn't in too much of a rush as I had 9 and a half hours between trains and I sat in the station house for breakfast before starting the walk. I did it in September on a clear but cold day and the walk between Sgor Gaibhre and Beinn na Lap took it's soll on me. If I went back to do them again then I would reverse my circuit and start with Beinn na Lap first. I'll add my walk report from it to give you an idea and I can only echo the others in saying it's a fantastic place:
