Postby stuart mclovin » Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:51 pm

Hi all, planninng on doing teh GGW in 4 days but wondering if there is accomodation along the way that would suit this split or if i would be needing to camp at some points along the way to meet this timescale.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! :D

Hi Stuart

I'm doing the GGW in 4 days in May.

My stops are in B&B's at South Laggan, Invermoriston & Drumnadrochit.

The mileage splits are as follows;

Day 1 Banavie - South Laggan - 19 miles (doing the WHW as well so my last day of the WHW includes the first 4 miles of the GGW so you would be 23 miles from the start of the GGW rather than my 19).

Day 2 - South Laggan - Invermoriston - 20 miles
Day 3 - Invermoriston - Drumnadrochit - 14.5 miles
Day 4 - Drumnadrochit - Inverness - 20 miles

Hope it goes well and let's prey for decent weather    i

Hi Gordie,

thanks a lot for the advice, much appreciated. Are you using a baggage transfer service or carrying what you need?

best of luck, i did the WHW last year and it was brilliant, hope all goes well for you on this mammoth undertaking!

Hi Stuart

I'm using Loch Ness Travel for my bag, they've been really friendly and helpful.

Glad you enjoyed the WHW, I'm looking forward to it although my day from Balmaha to Inverarnan looks like a tough one.

Hi Stuart
Me and the wife are going to walk GGW in 4 days from 31st March to 3rd April and we basically have the same arrangements as regards stops as Gordie12 , but we're leaving the car at FW and taking the Citylink bus to Inverness and then walking back to the car. Our itinery is as follows:
Day 1 Inverness to Drumnadrochit
Day 2 Drumnadrochit to Invermoriston
Day 3 Invermoriston to South Laggan
Day 4 South Laggan to Fort William
There are a number of bandbs/ hostels/hotels on route.
We have never used a baggage service before even though we have walked a number of long distance routes , might be a good idea though. ( I'm just tight ) .
Have a good walk Stuart and hopefully we will hear from you later.

Hi All,

Did the GGW in April 2012 in 4 days. Parked near the Fort William Backpackers and walked as follows:-

1) Fort William to South Laggan - stayed at the hostel just off route - 25 miles
2) South Laggan to Alltsigh Youth Hostel - just off route - 25 miles
3) Alltsigh to Drumnadrochit - Loch Ness Backpackers - 10 miles
4) Drumnadrochit to Inverness - 20 miles - caught bus back to Fort William

Hope this helps.
