Hi fae Fife

Hi fae Fife

Postby Fife Flyer » Thu May 16, 2013 4:34 pm

Stumbled across this site the other day & was suitably impressed. I have recently started strolling up a few Corbetts as near to Fife as possible. Was up Ben Venue yesterday & thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Am off (weather permitting) up Ben Each tomorrow.
Here's a question/suggestion, I always plan my route/weather etc prior to departing, however the big problem I always encounter on searching for a new hill is where to park. It is excellent that we have detailed descriptions of routes/terrain etc, but a brief description of parking arrangements would be very useful.

Hi there Fife Flyer, and welcome to the WH site. I suppose the reason that some hills have not got details re starting points/carparking details is that many have very different starting points and it's leaving it up to the user to find a stating point convenient to them, depending on the area and direction your coming from. If you note all my reports have starting point details, but they may not suit all others. I guess you find a report that gives you the details that you want and then go with it, enjoy :)

I appreciate there are numerous starting points/access to most of the hills however if there is parking available if we could add a brief one-liner, it would save driving back & forwards trying not to block access to a farm or similar
I notice the description for Beinn Each where I am off to tomorrow has a grid reference for parking, much appreciated :D

Don't know if you have a sat nav but all of the walk descriptions on WH have a map and directions link giving a lang/lat reference for parking. I use this everytime, a fantastic tool which has probably saved me hours of driving round looking for the correct place to park up

Thanks for your comments and welcome to the site!

All the routes (except those starting in towns which assume you arrive by public transport) given WH have OS grid references given for the start point / parking - in the Walk Stats panel on the right. There is also mention of where to park in the start section or text - whether it's a car park, layby etc. The 'map and directions' link under the START heading can also give Google-powered driving instructions to the start point (you can use the satellite view to try to actually see the parking if you wish) - as well as the sat nav coordinates mentioned.

Or you can do a virtual visit using google street view. The little yellow person can often sort out a parking place for you if you can be bothered.

Hi Fife Flyer, you sound like a thoroughly splendid chap. Wait a minute, have we not met somewhere before? I think I recognise that little rocket ship you proudly showing in your avatar.
