Aonach Eagach - 28th August 2013 (The Enoch Kneeknock)

Aonach Eagach - 28th August 2013 (The Enoch Kneeknock)

Postby MG1976 » Wed Jun 05, 2013 11:56 pm

Following an earlier thread (by GillC) regarding a possible meeting to tackle this route, I have started this new thread to record people's interest and availability to come along. The date (28/08/13) has been chosen based on the current availability of original thread author and a couple of others who showed an early interest.
This meet will be weather permitting, and confirmed closer to the time, after those wanting to come along have posted their interest & travel plans (car sharing), meet points and times etc are agreed.

This will be a members meetup and, as per any on this forum, IS NOT arranged by Walkhighlands.

To ensure I can compile a clear summary, it would be helpful if you could show your interest as follows.
- Your interest / availability - Tentative or Definitite.
- Where you will be travelling from.
- Any accommodation plans.
- If you are able to provide transport (car-sharing) for others.
- How many free spaces you would have.

SUMMARY OF INTEREST :

Enoch Kneeknock List.JPG
Last Updated 23/08/13

MEET LOCATION & TIME:

There is a small parking area on the north side of the A82 about three hundred metres west of the solitary house at Allt-na-reigh. (white house perched above a bend in the road, Jimmy Savilles old place) This car park is often full, in which case there is a larger car park a short distance further west along the road.
NN173567 is the best I can give
.
(Thanks for this info, Gill)

MEET FROM 0830 - START TIME WILL BE 0900.

I wil be carrying 2 mobile phones on the day (O2 & Vodafone).
I will PM all those on the current list these numbers. I will be in Crianlarich YH on the 27th, so any last minute call-offs, or people running late on the morning of, will have 2 options to get in touch.

Tom (32)
Tentative but hopeful (for reasons stated in other thread)
Oxford, in a land to the far South, where hills are tiny and bereft of snow.
Driving (space for potential 2 others, IF on route)

Will probably stay in the Glencoe YHA for a few days and climb ben Nevis via the CMD arete on another day.
Would also love to visit the Clachaig Inn for a few ales. How much is a pint in there?

That's assuming you stagger in the correct direction :)

That sounds like a winner Gill.
Plus the money saved on expensive accomidation can be spent on beer in the Clachaig.

And yes, if I come along I will definately do the Ben via CMD, and you will be more than welcome to join my own plodding.

I'm rather coming round to this camping malarkey. I'm getting a tent next month anyway, so i might head through on 28th, and assuming i don't fall off the Aonach Eagach, join a potential camping get together. I'm hoping to cycle the Lochaber 100 on 31st, so i might camp until the Friday, meet my other half then head to Fort William on the Saturday for that.

Would also be happy to join anyone walking on the Thursday as well. Best rest Friday.

PS: Clachaig + Alcohol + Riverside Campsite =

Can I just ask, those that are talking of camping for this meet, is this before the walk or after the walk? I just need to give "grannie" a heads up as to when she'll be looking after my boys.

My intention would be to do the ridge first then set up camp, as i'll be leaving very early morning to head through on the 28th.

I might head up the day before or on the day itself,, happy to fit in with whoever needs a lift etc from Glasgow. still long enough days,, but, best to get your pitch sorted before climbing rather than having to do all that fiddly tent stuff after a climb and more importantly, before pub time lol

theres a bit of a plan to be in Fort William at some point anyway,, for at least 2 of us. Im off all week and may well be camping or hosteling from Tuesd to Sunday,,wherever I find a pitch,,

Riverside in the Red Squirrel, yep,,could be dodgy,,if it wasn't for the very strict campsite rules,,they have wardens who scare the b'jesus out of you lol

I will be bringing a stove and some cooking gear,,im sure we can get a wee bar meal in the evening but stove is good for a cuppa of a morning.
