Ringed Ouzel

Ringed Ouzel

Postby weaselmaster » Tue Jun 25, 2013 10:47 pm

When I was up in Sutherland recently, spotted a bird I hadn't seen before up on Suilven - about the size of a small crow, black with a white ruff of feathers at the neck, yellow beak and brownish feathers on the dorsal aspect of the wings
My trusty companion later discovered, by the miracles of the interweb, that it was a ringed ouzel, although i would have said it was larger than your average blackbird.
Got a brief snap of the creature before it flew off:

Saw my first one on Ben Rinnes a couple of weeks ago...guess they're not as rare as I first thought! Not exactly shy either, just ignored me as I was lying sunning myself in the lea of the rocks.
