'Wild' camp spot (near car) Perthshire

'Wild' camp spot (near car) Perthshire

Postby naepace » Sun Jul 14, 2013 10:37 pm

Hi folks, I did Ben Vorlich the other day and obviously had to pass the throng of 'wild' campers along the south banks of Loch Earn. I would quite like to do something like that with the wee ones (they are young enough to believe it was truly wild camping !)
Does anyone know of a nice spot not too far from the car (I'm the only walker in this family !!) similar to Loch Earn but not quite so 'popular', within an hours drive of Perth ?
Many thanks.

If Your looking to do a little hill with a bit of wild camping with the kids. I would recommend Moncrieff hill or Birnam brae. Both have great camping spots and an easy hill that the kids could do with you. (Moncrieff hill has a carpark half way up as well ;0)

If at all possible you don't want to camp with your children anywhere where people can just pull up in a car and put up a tent (i.e. somewhere where they don't have to carry their enormous quantities of booze very far.) You do not want to camp anywhere that is remotely like Loch Earn where there have recently been problems with alcohol fuelled violence. If you walk even a short distance before choosing a camp site you will have a much more pleasant experience.

The family & myself did Schiehallion the other sunday and we found a great wee spot further along the Schiehallion Road, around 2 miles past the car park for Schiehallion. It was at some trees where we had a fire and a good nights rest, tidying up as if we were never there in the morning )
