Corbetts: Ben Donich, The Brack
Date: Sunday 14 July 2013
Time taken: 4hrs 20mins
Distance: 13.8km
Ascent: 1,180m
Attendees: me

A shorter walk which was closer to home meant a later start than usual.

Straightforward drive up and parked in the car park at the Rest and be Thankful. Walked up the B828 to get to the start of the Ben Donich track and discovered another small car park which would’ve been handier.

Followed the track up Ben Donich.

Mist on the surrounding hills.

It was getting warmer further up although the wind was also strengthening and keeping it chilly on and off.

A bit misty at the top and quite a bit of low level cloud around so couldn’t see much.

Waited a few minutes but it wasn't going to clear so set off initially retracing my steps before aiming SE. Couldn’t see the top of The Brack but looked to be two possible approaches – chose the more northerly.

Image

Little to see on the ascent due to the mist and cloud.

Got to the top but was in the clag.

Image

Various options to return but as there was no sign of the clag clearing, opted for the direct return route. Low cloud covering the tops on the way down.

Image

Got to where the track enters the trees.

Then walked back up the forest track to the Ben Donich car park and back down to my starting car park. Nice and sunny lower down but the tops still hadn’t cleared.
