Ben Vrackie?

Ben Vrackie?

Postby ross88guy » Thu Jul 18, 2013 8:48 pm

Hi guys, I am taking the GF up to Edinburgh for a long weekend this weekend (there had better be some sun!) and we were thinking about doing some walking whilst we are up there. We though that Ben Vrackie might be quite a good place to start as it is easy to get to from Edinburgh and isnt too hard for novices like us. Do you think that is a good choice or can you recommend something closer and/or more senic for us to try out.

Hi there ross88guy, Ben Vrackie, a wee cracker and not a long day, forecast HOT and dry, take lots of fluid and drink often, enjoy and take your time. Cannot think of a better hill for the weather conditions forecast. Water available en route just in case you run out. :)

Ben Vrackie is a fine mountain. My daughter managed it aged 5 so you should have few problems, just make sure you have plenty water, no mater how heavy it is to carry.

Ben Vrackie is a good option, though there's some very nice walking in the Pentlands which is much closer to Edinburgh. This is one of my favourites: http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/lothian/west-kip.shtml and you can easily add on Allermuir Hill is you feel like it. Might also be a touch cooler here than further inland this weekend!

Ben Vrackie is a fair drive from Edinburgh, agree with the suggestion about going to the Pentlands instead, it's beautiful there :D
