The Secret Howff of Beinn a' Bhuird

The Secret Howff of Beinn a' Bhuird

A feature on the secret howff is to be broadcast on 'Our Story' on Radio Scotland at 1.30pm tomorrow (should be available all week on iplayer).
'Out of Doors' had a section of the interview with the last surviving member of the construction gang. His tale of drunkenly sneaking the roofing materials past Invercauld is hilarious, and if the rest of the programme is as entertaining then it will definitely be worth listening to.

It sounds like the wee howff above Gleann an t-Slugain on the way up to the coires of Beinn a'Bhuird. I guess the true Beinn a' Bhuird howff is the one that we knew as the Smith-Winram bivouac at the entrance to Coire nan Clach below the North top of Beinn a'Bhuird. Both offer reasonable shelter for an overnight stay. :D
Must try to remember to listen out for this broadcast. :)

Having just recently spent a night in both the 'Secret Howff' and the Smith WInram bivvy, this article is very timely for me!!

Thanks 'Cairngormwanderer' for posting the link.

How secret: I think there is a grid reference in a climbing guide that I used back in 2003!

That is probably the Smith-Winram Bivouac at the foot of the dividing buttress at Coire an Dubh Lochan on Beinn a Bhuird. That's not the secret one.
