We had a very pleasant stroll here back in 2010, once we got away from the noise and fumes of the burger van at the start. I wonder how many people head north to the Quirang but never bother heading south to Bioda Buidhe and co.

The going is easy on short sheep shorn and tracked grass and although the view from the car park along the southern escarpment doesn't look too dramatic compared to the view north, it isn't long before you are looking down on your left at a 150m vertical drop. For us the drama was amplified by strong winds pushing cloud shadows across the ground below and us sideways.

The ridge swings right a bit after a kilometre to reveal the Bioda Buidhe top and the southward continuation of the Trotternish ridge. Although in reality we are talking about a mini mountain here the setting is grand and the summit seems higher than the prosaic 466m we see on the map. Not long after that turn in the ridge you will see before you an easily accessible narrow spur jutting out southwards -well worth the detour. After that a short steep section leads up onto a steady walk around the rim of Bioda Buidhe's north escarpment. A glance right brings the Outer Hebrides into view and to the left and below a jumble of landslip pinnacles lines the route to the top.
