Great Glen Way to Spean Bridge

Great Glen Way to Spean Bridge

Postby tomblumenthal » Fri Aug 09, 2013 7:54 am

I am planning a trip in the Great Glen Way.
Only accommodation I could find near Gairlochy is in Spean Bridge.

Regarding the walk from Gailochy to Spean Bridge,
I wondered if someone know of a walking trail that goes from The Great Glen Way or Gairlochy to Spean Bridge so we wouldn't have to walk on the road that seem unwelcoming (google "street" view :) )
Our host at Spean Bridge said there was a route that was closed but was also told it was reopened.
Does someone have any info on it ?

Thanks all,

Tom

Hi tomblumenthal,

I did the Great Glen Way in April 2012. Problem with Gairlochy, other than lack of facilities, is it is too near the start of the walk! The walk from Fort William is all flat and easy-going along canal towpaths. With a 9am start you will have arrived by 12noon. If you intend walking further why not start earlier and press on to the independent hostel at South Laggan, instead of leaving the route to go to Spean Bridge? How many days are you planning to take?
