blair atholl, train to edinburgh

Postby boeda » Thu Sep 12, 2013 10:38 pm

Hope somebody can help me. Mid october we're planning a 4 day. walk in the cairngorms, walking from aviemore to blair atholl.
We're flying to/from edinburgh (from amsterdam), and return sunday 20th october. But ut as it turns out trains don't run from blair atholl that particular day (website scotrail). Am i missing something and what are alternatives ( bus, taxi?).
We need to catch the plane in edinburgh at 5 pm. Hope for some tips...

Check nation rail enquiries first part of the journey is by bus departs at 1040am from Blair Atholl arrives at Perth at 1140am There is a connecting train that departs at 1159am arrives at Edinburgh at 1319.If your going to the Airport I think you are better getting off at Haymarket arrives at 1313.

If you search for tickets on the Scotrail website it'll still give you times, although at least part of the journey will be by a replacement coach.

Otherwise the Citylink buses from Inverness to Edinburgh stop at Blair Atholl - it might be a bit quicker that day, although it's no cheaper!

Thanks a lot. This leaves us enough time to catch the plane after enjoying the cairngorms.
