2 walkers with 2 cars, we planned a traverse just for a longer and more varied walk. So left a car in the Glen Artney car park and took the other car down to Comrie and parked at car park before Dalrannoch farm where there is a footpath sign to Callander, 13 miles.
A good road to the farm then a well used track till we reached a split in the track, with one newer one climbing straight up the hillside on the right. We went up this track but couldn't see where it went, so went back down and followed the wetter rougher track through the trees. Once in the trees, we found out why they were avoiding it, very wet, boggy for the most part till we reached a burn where the track ceased to be and became a footpath instead. Here there was a sign about a concealed hole (otherwise known as a trap?) and temporary footpath but looking back we realised it was for people walking in the other direction and we'd missed the hole. Quickly came back onto a track and walking conditions improved.
Lovely views opened up in either direction of the lower part of the glen.
- Looking back down the glen
- Looking to Uamh Bheag hills
Eventually the track came to the bridge over the Water of Ruchill. We stopped nearby for our lunch, over looking the river. This was our cut short option if weather had been bad. Over the bridge and straight back to car parked in Glen Artney. However it was still fine. Over a gate to get out of the field and through another big gate to get back on path. From here on up the path is very wet at the moment so we spent most of our time watching our feet. However, views of Uamh Bheag and its pals became obvious. The walk back down to Auchinner was a bit better as it was a used track once more. Through a gate, over to a bridge with a gate, though a field of overly friendly sheep who obviously thought we were bringing dinner and were a bit upset we weren't, foot stamping huffy they were. Another gate at the bridge and then one last field and style and onto the road. Simple walk back to the car parked at Glen Artney.
