Any munro's accessible with-out Cramp-ons?

Any munro's accessible with-out Cramp-ons?

Postby Wok de dog » Fri Mar 14, 2014 8:14 am

I am walking a lot of Corbetts at the moment but champing at the bit to bag a few munro's.
I do not have an axe or cramp-ons yet, ( budget gone on Gps ).
Are there any Munro summits that are accessible to me?

Judging by munro bagpipers report Ben Lomond by the tourist path looks ok, snow melting fast, many corbetts as you know are clear, so unless there is a substantial period of frost, you should be ok, but if on the hill the conditions change, turn around. The Cairnwell and Carn Aosda from the Glenshee centre should also be ok, as I passed there Wednesday, still lots of skiers though , watch out!

You've still got loads of easy ones to do :D
just pick nice rounded ones without any steep drops and enjoy. plenty around Glenshee and Drumochter and like Rod says don't be afraid to turn back if your unsure :D

Crampons arent needed much (vast majority) of the time but an axe very often is.

Geal Charn and Creag Pitridh in Laggan, the latter is flat enough up top albeit snowy at present, firm but not solid. Pitridh is almost bare of snow on its south side and ridge (usual route). The other in the trio is not wise without either bit of kit.

Argh, I should have explained better. Are there any Munro's at the moment that the snow has melted enough to allow me to walk up with-out cramp-ons and an axe?
I will turn back if the weather turns.
I will look at the one's you mentioned and pick one for next week.
Cheers fella's.

Have a look at Ben Chonzie - no very steep slopes or awkward parts. Track a lot of the way up, but it is exposed and summit plateau can be very windy and have wind scoured icy bits. Check the local forecast.

That's what we thought I'm Sure  Hence the above choices :) We have only used our crampons once this year and we're out every weekend

I was up Beinn Ime a few days ago. Wouldn't recommend it from Butterbridge approach, but guy came up from Arrochar side without crampons. Still plenty snow, but softer on southern side.

Fhionn Bheinn (from Achnasheen) - not only does it not need ice axe or crampons, it doesn't need a car either!
