Chalamian Gap

Chalamian Gap

Postby davierobbo » Tue Apr 22, 2014 11:35 am

Good morning folks!

Tackling Braeriach on Sunday and hoping to do it via the Gap. Anyone know what conditions are like there at the moment. I've been told the snowline is higher up but any updates/info would be most appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

If it's any help there were plenty of snow patches above 2000' in the Ben Alder/Dalwhinnie area on Sunday.
The snow was soft and melting at the edges, I doubt if you will need the winter gear, but you could take it in the car just in case

Bod and Val were there at the weekend.
I think the gap was snow free but Braeriach had snow on it.

If you don't fancy it, it is possible to avoid the gap on the NW side: there is a faint path and it adds no more than 20m extra ascent.

Great day up there yesterday. The sun was blazing as we went through the gap. Still some snow on Braeriach but only small patches affecting the path. Crampons and axes not required. Legs are aching a wee bit today but a great day was had by all!
