5 munro's, Aberarder to Roughburn from A86 on Sat 3rd May

5 munro's, Aberarder to Roughburn from A86 on Sat 3rd May

Postby jamesjones » Sat Apr 26, 2014 2:03 pm

Hi All,

I'm intending to do the route from Aberarder to Roughburn taking in the 5 munro's on the Northside. Looks to be about 18miles and approx 1800m of ascent. Looking at Saturday 3rd May 2014. The only difficulty is the 10 miles back along the A86. Looked at public transport but couldn't find anything. If anybody has a vehicle and fancies this walk let me know. If you don't have a vehicle your still welcome to join me. Cheers

Jimmy

If you can't get transport, can you get a hold of a bike ? Did this route clockwise - parked at Aberarder, cycled to Roughburn but had to lift the bike over the fence and lock it to a tree. Straightforward cycle on the road but need to be careful as some cars passed going quite fast even though it was early - cheers :)

PS hope you get better weather than I did

Hi Jimmy,
I quite fancy having a go at these with you. I've been wanting to do a sizeable 'round' for a while.
However, my car is off the road with a goosed alternator, so i'll have to borrow her car. I'll check if i can borrow it for Saturday and get back to you.
If we park a car at either end we can save a lot of 'late in the day' walking.

Result! :D :D :D
We're in business. No problem for Saturday.
PM me if still going ahead. It looks like we might get the best part of this incoming cold snap en route. Forecast currently says clear(ish) for Saturday. But, this is Scotland and it's 3 days to go, so we'll see!

I am up for this round as well. Where are you from James? I am coming from Livingston, so if you would be living near the route there, I could pick you up.

Jimmy is down in Geordie land, not too handy for Livingston

Hi

Sorry it's taken so long to reply. I'm leaving early tomorrow, so not sure how much access i'll have to the internet in Newtonmore area. It's still on, weather doesn't look too bad for Saturday. Just to clarify, I'll be in the car park at 8.30am at Aberarder and we can take a car to the finish at Roughburn. Looking forward me meeting everybody. I'm the one in the white van with the bird insignia on the side panel.

See you then Jimmy

ehh... my mistake with names/users. I thought about Jepsonscotland/Chris whose car is broken... If his car is broken, and I just googled his location - it is on route from Livingston, could drive through Broughty Ferry omw to the north if he would like to go as well.

Ghrabii/Chris

I'm off, hoping to be near Newtonmore before 11.0am to do 3 Munro's before it gets to dark. See you Saturday 8.30am Aberarder car park.

Cheers Jimmy

Hi guys,
Sorry for delay, I was on late shift yesterday.
A pick up on the way past sounds great, thanks.
Have sent PM's to relevant peeps for meet up.

Well Done Chris, Great day out with good company and pleasant weather. A long day so well done to both you and Ghrabii. Rain pretty heavy on the Saturday night but Sundays walk was fairly quick up a pretty mundane hill, Geal Charn.

Chris, Jimmy,
Thanks a lot for a great day on the hills. I learned quite a few things from you guys and although It was rather long but very nice, for me it was about 371 miles of ride and almost 28km of walk, 22 hours of being awake, and unlike you just 4 munros. But still was great eaven without the 5th.
