We set of from sunny Edinburgh just after 9am on Easter Sunday & arrived at Tillicoultry just before 10. We had printed the route from the website so we headed up Mill Glen to begin the walk.

Already the day was warm & not a cloud in the sky so it was a great day for walking. We found the steps & began to make the steep climb up towards the gorse. When the path clears through the gorse bushes you have clear views across into the quarry opposite.

We missed the green bench so we had to backtrack slightly to find the correct path but once we were on the correct path we had no more problems. All the climb is steady a bit steep in places but nothing serious, my wife & son moaned to start with but when they saw they views across the Forth towards Falkirk & Edinburgh in the distance the moaning stopped.

The climb kept on rising steadily past a cairn until we found the fence & gatepost which we needed to climb. The final climb is steady & your rewarded with a large summit cairn, shelter & 360 degree views. After a spot of lunch we continued onwards to Dollar. This was all downhill from here on gentle but with some steep slopes to negotiate.

On the way down there is a memorial to the three Spitfire planes based at RAF Grangemouth that crashed on the hill during the second World War.

The path we were to take to Dollar is easy to follow & it helped that so many people were out enjoying the good weather as there was a constant stream of walkers on the path coming from Dollar. The path winds its way down hill & rewards you with views overlooking Dollar & Castle Campbell. As we arrived at the Castle we felt the heat of the day's sun as we had been slightly wind beaten on the slopes we were surprised at how warm its was.

We continued on down from the Castle past Dollar Golf Club & into the main Street of Dollar it's self before taking a stop for some tea & scone's at Vanilla pod (although they did a good pot of tea the scone's were stale).

After a quick pit stop we headed for Tillicoultry though the last few miles were the slowest as the walk & the heat had taken it's toll on Charlie & the sweets were brought out to get him to move. Sadly enough was enough & he gave in at the garden centre & I finished the circular route myself by going to retrieve the car before picking up the wife & offspring at the other end of Tillicoultry. It was then a drive to the parents for a well desrved dinner & a couple dram's of Jura as a reward.
