Name that beetle?

Can anyone identify this little fellow found on the ptarmigan ridge path up Ben Lomond yesterday? Not one I have ever seen before.
Also on a wildlife theme I brought two ticks home so their season is under way already.

Nice and shiney, looks like a piece of jewellery. Also looks like a bird has had a go at him, and pecked a hole in his thoracic carapace.

Thanks Caberfeidh, I didn't notice the damage at the time until I cropped the photo. Didn't slow it down any while I tried to get its picture.
