2 Day Winter Skills between 28th Dec 2014 and 3rd Jan 2015

Postby AlphaT » Tue May 27, 2014 2:26 pm

Hi everyone after many years mountain biking, hill walking, snowboarding and white water kayaking, I am looking to start winter hill walking. So to do things properly, looking for a 2 days Winter Skills training course between 28th December 2014 and 3rd January 2015 for 4 people... I realise this is a time when many take a hard earn rest but have limited time off and failed this year to find a course in Wales due to lack of snow, so thought I would try the highlands... Have paddled many times around Fort William but not done any winter walking... Any suggestions gratefully appreciated...
Cheers

Many of the guides here offer winter skills courses - would be a good place to start - actually over Hogmanay might be a bit difficult I would think - good luck.

Hey,,,check out Mountain Aid, http://www.mountainaid.org.uk/
http://www.mountainaid.org.uk/events

they run subsidised courses but run by experienced mountain rescue peeps.. I heard about them on a Winter safety talk and signed up for a 1 day course, longer ones available) it was a fantastic experience for my first winter in the Scottish mountains, cant recommend it highly enough.

I think the MCOFS did 1 day winter skills between xmas and hogmanay this past year.
They've not scheduled past november yet, but keep an eye on the website.
