In most cases it'll take at least 2 years to Compleat (out every weekend) so your first 50 or so, will just be getting experience navigation fitness etc :D after that i found i would do the trickier munros on the west that would be more difficult with snow on them in the summer, and the eastern more rounded hills in the winter. that by no means makes them easier, you just won't fall as far if you slip

As experience builds, the narrower rockier hills are more appealing in winter :D It's really a personal thing though, but doing what you would call less appealing hills first leaves all the good stuff till last

P.S our last one was the one your doing tomorrow 8)

I've tended to do it the opposite way round to Scoob (because I'm not set on doing all the Munros): I've just looked at as much "mountain porn" as I can on WH and in books, and gone for the ones that looked the most enticing, sometimes because of their looks (eg Liathach, Cobbler), sometimes because I love high ridges with big views (eg S Kintail Ridge, Mullardoch Round).

If you follow Scoob's advice and leave the best until last, the best "last munro" WR report I've read is Andrew Doggett's report on doing Ladhar Bheinn...

...but I'm definitely not waiting to get out into Knoydart.

Thanks for that, the intention is deffo to get out as much as possible the goal being all 282. That sounds like a good plan which I will look into, Andy one of the guys I will be climbing with has been picking them so far he has at this point been climbing for a good few years. Fitness wise I have been ok as it's something I tend to do as per the norm although I am quite aware that hill/mountain fitness is totally different from out running roads etc

He picked Buachaille Etive Mor as he says on a clear sunny day you won't get a better view anywhere else in the world :)

By the looks of things it seems we are doing the ones that stand out as the most exciting etc, I think we are heading back to Glencoe in a week or two for the ridge which he says is amazing so looking forward to that 8)

not really set a plan in place guess it will be the ones that get the adrenalin going the most lol

I always think it is difficult to pick a favourite, mine is usually the most recent

Alot depends on what you want from a hill, I personally enjoy ridges but nothing scary, another huge factor is the weather

One walk that springs to mind is the "Ring of Steall", weather was ideal, fantastic views & a ridge walk

So far Stob Ghabhar has been my favourite hill. Although I couldn't see anything at the top, the walk was done in the snow and the Aonach Eagach ridge was thoroughly enjoyable.

If you are planning to do them all, then it doesn't make much sense motivation-wise to do all the "good" ones first!

Ii started by doing the ridges, Arran (no Munros but superb place), AE, Torridon etc but was living down south then so had to pick and choose, and also had no plans to compleat the Munros back then.

But some time much later picked up a Munro Log and started ticking off and found over the years had done about 40 or so, so forthcoming once a year trips started revolving around picking more off.

The realisation that I may one day actually do them only really kicked in once I moved up here. Now on 188, but I'd still pick a good day and go repeat any of my favourites all of which have provided the best days walking ever, Liathach, Alligin, AE (5 times now) and without question An Teallach.

But as Scoob pointed out you can save some of the more rounded and maybe less appealing ones for winter when they are transformed, the likes of Glenshee (looks a mess there in the summer), the Monaliath also, have had special fun days on those too in deep winter snows.

But either way you will get to see some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere, a lot of which many locals have never seen themselves.

My favourites are usually the coastal ones north of the Great Glen. Ladhar Bheinn, Sgurr a Mhaoraich, Beinn Damh, Beinn Alligin, Slioch, An Teallach, Beinn Mhor Coigach, Foinaven. Half of those aren't Munros but you get the picture.

A lot of people will tell you a lot of nonsense about every hill being a good hill and it all depends on personal taste etc but the answer is Liathac.

Happy to Help
