last minute . com --------I`d hoped to go to the Cairngorms , but plan b , the weather was fairer in the west so my wife booked us 2 nights at the Lochailort Inn so a single munro - Gulvain was next in line .
The weather report was ok for early on , but set to deteriorate a wee bit in the afternoon , my wife walked in on the track with me & our 2 standard schnauzers Oskar & Ruby , it was very hot , dry & totally infested with clegs & horse flys - the worst I`ve came about yet on a hill walk , after 3.5 miles Tracey my Mrs & Ruby turned round and headed back out to the Lochailort Inn to read her book & do lunch. Oskar & I continued on I met Graeme / Graham - a member here on WH - who was cycling out , he`d had a very early start - the weather was still good although cloud was forming ever so slightly on the top - we`d met before on Ben Wyvis in January - my 1st Munro of 2014 - again in poor conditions !!!
After 850 m it was quite clagged in , it blew through occasionally giving brief glimpses but the views regrettably were not great. Graham had had a better day on the hill than me , never the less I enjoyed it very much & would definitely re-do it at some point - but I`d wait for excellent weather to see the views I`d missed - the Lochailort Inn was perfect , quite a nice wee remoteish Inn , we were made very welcome & the food wwas excellent I`d recommend it , most guests were foreign tourists - a good sign - although I had a couple of nice chats with a young Geologist from Nottingham who was also up walking , no fotos as usual now home PC is sick , but I did put some on TH via FB at the time.
