Accomodation in Knoydart

Accomodation in Knoydart

Postby IamAJMiller » Sun Aug 17, 2014 8:35 pm

Hi there,

I'm planning a potential trip to Inverie in early September. So far I'm liking the look of the Knoydart Foundation bunkhouse but does anyone else have any other recommendations? I'm aware that the choice is not exactly massive, but we were looking for bunkhouse / self catering style place; is this the only bunkhouse nearby or am I missing something? Of course the self catering side of things might just be for heating up the morning porridge as the pub food looks fantastic!

Thanks in advance as always :-)

Hi there

Knoydart has about 250 bed-spaces for visitors, so you're spoilt for choice really.

Bunkhouse-wise, apart from the excellent Knoydart Foundation bunkhouse, there's Torrie Bunkhouse (only takes groups, 01687 462669), The Old Byre Bunkhouse (01687 460099 / www.theoldbyreknoydart.com), and Kilchoan Estate also has bunkhouse style accommodation (01687 462133 / www.kilchoan-knoydart.com ).

Check out the new Visit Knoydart site, which has info on all the above accommodation plus self-catering and B&Bs http://www.visitknoydart.co.uk )

cheers

Just to warn you - Knoydart may be very busy early September. We, and a lot of our friends are all going up for a wedding on the 13th. There may still be a few beds avaliable in the bunkhouse though!

Thanks for the heads up, we're planning on a midweek trip and it might not happen though so we'll probably be ok. Good to get info for the future. Thanks again for everyone's advice :D

ISTR that the alternatives to the Bunkhouse are quite a bit dearer. But the Bunkhouse is fantastic - if you're lucky enough to avoid stag nights and extreme-snorers that I had last time!

Druim Bothy? It's a little out of Inverie, about half an hour's pleasant stroll after a few pints

Like a reservable, private bothy with a good supply of firewood, running taps, a brilliant stove, and a sort-of flushing toilet.

Was a few years ago we used it, don't know what it's like now.

Try Barrisdale (google for their website). A choice of accomodation in a really remote spot. Everything you need has to be carried in for about 8 miles - except coal for the fire if you stay in the luxury of the lodge!
Highly recommended, although I have never been to Inverie,

just to be clear - Barrisdale accomodation goes from camping with minimal facilities, through bunkhouse to bothy and lodge. Lodge is great in summer (no midges) and in cooler times (open fire),

Thanks Ian, but due to time constraints we're set on Inverie. Barrisdale another time.

If you rent the Barrisdale accomodation, they will ferry your supplies in on occasion, leaving you to walk in. They are not insured to ferry in people.
