Weekend Weather

Weekend Weather

Postby Broggy1 » Tue Oct 14, 2014 10:27 am

All the TV weather forecasts are giving a so called heatwave this weekend across the UK yet both the MWIS and Met are saying storms and showers for Saturday/Sunday across the Highlands....

Have the MWIS and Met just not caught up yet or is it the usual case of the TV only really giving forecasts in relation to the South?

I read it as milder weather but still unsettled. Mwis probably didn't mention temperatures in the forecast summary.

Same last weekend.. MWIS was saying rain and high winds for Lochaber, but all the other forecasts were saying fine weather..
We went, and surprise, surprise, it was really sunny and hot.. Even too hot for the most part, and just a wee shower Saturday night..
MWIS is so persistently pessamistic to the point, where I don't even bother looking there any more..

It looks warm and wet to me at the moment. Looks like there's supposed to be a band of rain passing over Scotland (from SW to NE) around Friday night, bringing higher temperatures with it. It might be gone by Saturday, but looks very showery nevertheless.

What he said. Frankly, I never pay attention to forecasts more than say 36 hours in advance of a trip. Meteorology is such an inexact science, that forecasts more than 48hrs in advance for a small Northern hemisphere country surrounded by sea, simply arent worth the paper they're printed on.

Also, as Basscadet says, MWIS can be laughably inaccurate. I've given up on them, and just look at the BBC weather pages online.

I just use the met office as they give weather info for every munro in scotland (well I haven't checked them all but so my mate says) and it has worked okay for me so far so i'll continue to use it. only ever go on what it's saying 36 hours in advance like others have said.

was supposed to be doing wyvis last weekend but mrs golfpunk's grandad ended up in hospital so we had to cancel at the last minute.
