Washing Meco tops

Washing Meco tops

Postby Quixoticgeek » Wed Nov 19, 2014 2:15 pm

I have a RAB MECO base layer that needs a wash. The instructions on the label say "Do not bleach". My washing powder apparently contains 12-15% "Oxygen based bleaching agents".

What do others use to wash their MECO base layers?

Nixwax TechWash or similar, or pure soap flakes

I use Tech wash and it works fine.
Clean, no smell, not the softest finish, but that's not really the point.

Asda non bio delicate liquid wash. Or any supermarket brand delicate/wool and silk liquid detergent.

Couple of quid for a 1L bottle and lasts for months. I wash all my Meco and merino stuff with it.

I use the delicates liquid wash too, Co-op in my case as I live in the back of beyond where it's the only one available, and put them in with the woollens. Mind you, I haven't had a meco top for long, but it seems to work for merino stuff.

Ecover delicate for me too, using a cycle for wool or wool-synthetic blends.

Rules were made to be broken, I suppose. Most manufacturers would not recommend a bio or a fabric conditioner for a wool-synthetic baselayer, let alone a 2 in 1 with both. But if it works for bydand_loon, I'll not criticise.

Wash in warm water only, several times. No powders.
