Guide book advice

Postby bagpuss » Tue Mar 10, 2015 7:38 pm

Hi,
In the Easter holidays we will be staying in Crianlarich and Glencoe for 2 weeks. I've stayed in those areas before so familiar with some of the hills. We have all the OS maps for the area which are useful for planning routes, we also have a few books about the Munros. As to whether we tackle any of the higher hills will depend on the weather/snow conditions as will have my 11 year old daughter with us. (We've been up twice at Easter so know what to expect) I wondered if anyone could recommend a guide book for lower level walk/lower hill suggestions which we could use to plan walks on the OS? Alternatively any recommendations for good low level options? I've done some of the walks on Walk Highlands and will be printing a few to take with me too.

Thanks in advance :)

I believe that one can purchase the works of Mr and Mrs Webster without fear of disappointment http://www.amazon.co.uk/Loch-Lomond-Tro ... en+webster

In all seriousness I love the 40 favourite walks series of books. Always good for a low level alternative when away and the weather closes in.

Thanks, will have a look at that one on Amazon. Any suggestions of lower hills would be good as it doesn't look like there's going to be a thaw anytime soon!

Fiarach is nice 2139 feet, and has nice views of the local hills, tho not very extensive, or why not take the train from Crianlarich to Corrour and walk up Ben na Lap. it IS a Munro, but very straight forward, if not, a walk round the loch is scenic, and the train ride across Rannoch Moor is always good. Or you could get out at Rannoch station and do one of the smaller hills from there e.g. Sron Smeur.
