Targets for 2015

Targets for 2015

Postby Lightfoot2017 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 1:26 pm

Time for a repeat of the same question I posed around about the same time last year.....

Just wondering what folks have as their aims, ambitions, targets for the walking year?

Any hills you want to conquer? Any target numbers you want to hit? Any experiences you want to get under your belt? Any ‘new’ parts of Scotland you want to visit? Any kit you want to treat yourself to?

For me; it’s a very simple one: hit my annual target of c.30 Munros by year end. (No biggie for a lot of people on WH, I know, but a decent target for me). Within this, I’m looking to do the following milestone hills / rounds:

the round of four at Lairig Ghru (Cairn Toul, etc.)
Ben Nevis via the CMD
Ben More Assynt and Conival
Ben Klibreck
Meall na Tanga and its unpronounceable neighbour at Loch Lochy.

I’ll be disappointed if I don’t get those ticked off. :?

So c’mon folks, lets hear it. What are you looking to achieve (hills and outdoor wise) this year….?

Outstanding! Deeply impressive. :D Mind me asking why Sgritheal for your last summit? Was that deliberate? or just the way things have panned out.....?

A list nae handy :

Do a backpacking weekend with my first truly wild camp in one of the following: Fisherfield, Knoydart, Alder Region or Affric
The In Pin on Skye
Do the Arran Corbetts in June as we're going there for a week
Make it to half way on the Munros
Make it to twenty Corbetts
Do Ben na Lap from Corrour Station by getting the train in
Meet more WH members for an arranged walk not just by coincidence on the hills
Get out somewhere on the longest day for a wild camp on a summit
Get a decent camera or go pro for recording my trips properly

Not much to ask for really

This time I have set myself a much harder target, want to reach 230 (at least)

Off to Skye in May - fingers crossed re you know what
The rest in particular order -
The Sisters in Glen Sheil
CMD Arete
Mullardoch
Glenfinnan
Fisherfield
Maybe finish off the Cairngorms

Plenty of car miles there 8)

Erm, no particular reason.. I did 250 or so, then realised I would want a solitary hill with a bothy close by for my last munro, and Sgritheal fitted the bill 8)

I have Skye in June..........so that will be nice  Stocking up on clean underwear for some of that

Other than that experience I have no real targets in terms of Munros - bad planning has left me a tricky 20 to polish off in order to compleat. Adding a few in addition to Skye would be nice, but not the end of the world. I want to compleat before I hit 50 though, which despite my youthful looks is a lot closer than I would like (still feel like a 21 year old and all that  ) so at some point I will need to focus my attention on the ones I have left.

A nice long walk taking in the Alder two in a single day trip is on the cards for sometime this year, just because.......

Corbett wise hitting 100 would be nice, as would the half way point on the Donalds, but I'm not precious.

Really though I just want to be fit and healthy enough to get out weekends and enjoy a good yomp over a hill, or two or three........and enjoy every experience I have for what it is in its own right :D

I can heartily recommend the 'Loch Lochy' Munros, did it in about 20-30 degree heat a few years ago, and saw about 2 other folk, terrific day out. Good luck with the year!

Plans for 2015
1. Motto: Keep this side of the grass.
2. Finish Marilyns Jura/Islay/Mull
3. Visit Barra and possibly the Uists
4. Carry on chipping away at Lewis and Harris Marilyns (still 18 to go).
5. Walk with some other people besides just husband.
6. Get Marilyn total over 1400

Not off to a very good start...14 Marilyns so far, and it's half way through March. May have to go down to South Wales for another easy sweep. 38 to go for the 1400.

Nr 1. 2 days on the Cuillin Ridge with my brother (3rd repeat, because it's the best place in the world!)
Nr 2. Ben Lawers round (11 Munros - both sides of Glen Lyon)
Nr 3. Fainnachs
Nr 4. Glen Shiel N Side (6 - 9 Munros??)
Nr 5. Beinn Eighe - Liathach - Ben Alligin (repeat because it's the 2nd best place in the world!)
Nr 6. Knoydart

Long routes, because it's such a long drive to get there!!!

I'm an optimist... :D

I'm an optimist...

Likewise! I had a jam packed year full of cycling trips which are already looking doubtful due to a wrist injury, however I've got over my knee injury after an excellent winter hillwalking so am looking forward to some or all of the following:

1) Reach 100 Munros (arbitrary target really, I'm in no rush!)
2) 4 dayer from Blair Atholl to Aviemore inspired by a thread on here a while ago.
3) Rois Bheinn Ridge taking in Essan Bothy
4) The Fannichs including a wild camp up high somewhere
5) A week in September traversing Ben More Assynt to Fionaven taking in the Eas a Chuil Aluin falls and Glen Coul bothy (both of which escaped me last time I was in the area).
6) Possibly the Lochaber traverse although I've already done all but two of the hills on separate trips so this is a low priority.
7) A visit to Luib Chonnal bothy to climb the Creag Meagaidh hills from the back.

I predict I'll manage half of those but with some interesting last minute alternatives filling in the gaps...

I'd like to finish the Corbetts - currently sitting with 73 to go. Main target.

Maybe try and get to 200 Munro Tops though that would be another 26 which may be an ask. Keen to get Meall Dearg on the Northern Pinnacles of Liathach climbed and fancy trying for some of those in the Cuillin I haven't done.

Would like to do a couple of big days on the Munros - something like 10 Mamores in a day or the Mullardochs over 2 days but not sure if I have energy for that

Most important - keep enjoying being out there
