Sub 2k Marilyns: Seana Mheallan
Date: 25/03/2015.
Distance: 9.5km.
Ascent: 550m.
Time taken: 2 hours, 45 minutes.
Weather: Sunny, warm, clear

Renewing a water main to a dozen houses in Kinlochewe is not the sort of job that the Civil Engineering industry uses to promote itself to the graduates and potential high flyers of the world. Even the unglamorous water part of the industry would see it as mundane stuff. But on a sunny spring morning, I couldn't imagine being anywhere better. You can keep your High Speed 2's, Burj Khalifa's and Hong Kong airports - I've got this one  .

Meeting over at 11:30, I fancied that I had time for a couple of hours on the hills somewhere. Slioch and Beinn Eighe were too ambitious, and even the Kinlochewe Corbetts or Sgurr Dubh would be pushing it a bit, with a need to get back to the office later on. But Seana Mheallan was just about the right size for a lunchtime stroll. After the weekend's War and Peace report, I'll keep this one short on words.

I started from the carpark adjacent to Ling Hut, followed the stalkers path behind the hut for a short while, then broke out onto the NE ridge. The going was heathery, wet and slippery in places, interspersed with easy walking on sandstone slabs. Passing the eastern top, there was a little up and down past lochans and crags to the true summit, which overlooked Loch Torridon. Perfect lunch break material.

To get back to the car, I dropped SE across the plateau towards Lochan Neimhe, then over numerous heathery moraine lumps to pick up the stalkers path again. This isn't called Coire a' Cheud Chnoc (corrie of a hundred bumps) for nothing. Back onto my outward route and the car, feeling more than a bit smug and self-satisfied on the drive home 8)

Malky

Super report. Great job that allows you time for quick jaunts up hills 8)

Out of interest , did I speak to you a few Sunday's ago heading up Ben Wyvis? You and your daughter breezed past me about midday

Fabulous pics.

Such a wonderful place. As a civil engineer I've spent (still spend) much of my life travelling round the globe, but absolutely nothing beats the Highlands.

Cheers - this report was probably a bit too smug

Not me I'm afraid. I haven't been up Wyvis for a couple of years.

Aha - someone who does proper civil engineering I'm guessing  . I find the globetrotting opportunities are there if I actively look for them, but I tend to be a rather unadventurous sort who would prefer to stay at home for the most part.
