Camping near Dalmally?

Camping near Dalmally?

Postby Scotsman2012 » Wed Apr 08, 2015 1:55 pm

Is there anywhere suitable to park a car up then camp nearby in the area?

The plan is to camp in Tyndrum on a Friday night, climb Ben Cruachan & Stob Diamh on the Saturday, pitch the tent somewhere that night then climb Beinn a'Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich on the Sunday.

Don't fancy having to drive to/from Tyndrum on Saturday evening/Sunday morning if I can camp somewhere closer.

Thanks in advance.

I spent the night in the kilchurn castle car park at dalmally when I did those too and for cruachan etc. There aren't any signs saying you can't and a wee daunder round the castle at sunsets quite lovely

The Glen Strae parking space is fine, but if you fancy something slightly more secluded nearby leave your car at the mouth of Glen Strae, walk over the Strae bridge toward Dalmally on the B8077, and about 15m past the bridge there's a track going into the forest on your right. Go down the track (which will be a bit muddy) for about 100m when it opens out into a flat space by the river. You'll see the remains of previous campers' fires there. It's a pleasant spot.
