A beautiful sunny August Sunday motivated us to explore a bit more of the Trossachs so we caught the train/bus combo to Drymen and explored a bit of the WHW. Fortunately the bright sunshine kept the midges at bay even during our lunch stop.
Coming up the back of Conich Hill on the WHW path is definitely the way to do it - the path up (or down, depending on where you are) from Balmaha is much steeper and, on a day like today, absolutely lousy with tourists, children, and the generally unprepared.
- Hot n' hazy
- Summer on the loch
Once down in the village we had hoped to hire a canoe or even hop the on-demand ferry to explore Inchcailloch but by this point (around 3:30pm) there were no canoes to be had and the boathouse operator claimed that his ferry was booked up for the rest of the day. We consoled ourselves with a pint at the Oak Tree Inn which was absolutely heaving - what do you expect on a sunny Scottish August Sunday I suppose… Getting back to Balloch took ages as well as the B837 road was predictably a car park. Made a mental note to always try to go walking on
Mondays from here on out!
