Beinn Narnain & The Cobbler

On my walk today I was joined by my stepson David, who is home on leave from Afghanistan for some R & R.
When we set off from home heading for Loch Lomond we were uncertain where we were going to finish up...and discussed options on route and finally settled on Arrochar Alps. When we set off from the NT car park in Succoth it was Initially a Beinn Narnain & Beinn Ime combination that was favoured and possibly The Cobbler thrown in, but as it transpired it was Beinn Ime that was dropped.

We favoured the frontal assent through the woodland via the track following the Hydro Project slabs.

10.00 o'clock on the Horizon stands Ailsa Craig (Paddy's milestone) on the Ayrshire Coast off Girvan...a fair distance away

After a little light scrambling we made up (looking at the map) onto the flat of Cruach nam Measag where we crossed to next assent.

Another little scramble (I love these)

We trundled on and couldn't believe the frosty reception we got at the summit

well done to whoever was responsible nice sense of humour

Frosty brought down to size in the 'I did it' shot
time to drop out the wind for hot cuppa and sandwich and discuss options, which as was previously noted was to drop Beinn Ime in favour of The Cobbler, so we desended west off Narnain to start our next assent. We followed the main path up which was very tricky in palces due to iced snow and I witnessed a few people land on their RS on their way down. Once on the summit the wind had got up considerably and I had a wander over to a rock with a hole in it, which I discovered later to be the eye of the needle

Entering the Eye of the Needle
being there was no visible route on to the top of the needle, I crawled into the eye and peeked out the other side and then popped my feet onto the outside ridge whilst having a firm grasp of the inside of the eye, but with the wind howling I bottled it and swifting darted back through the eye to a safer and more secure footing.

The Needle & drop
after wandering about the summit for a bit we chose to desend via the track than ran down to the main path from the easterly horn

One last look back at The Cobbler from track running past Narnain Boulders
.....So it was off down track back to carpark at Succoth & walk over.
