1. Park in the main car park at Leith Hall. There is a charge to park and another for admission to the gardens but the waymarked walks themselves are free. The very fine hall itself unforunately closed to the public as part of the National Trust for Scotland cuts in 2009 and is being considered for conversion to flats. An information board in the car park gives details of the waymarked walks; the Craigfall Trail begins by turning left when facing the hall itself.

2. Follow the track up the hill as far as the fine, curved stable building. Here a marker post indicates a path heading up through the trees, between two tracks. It leads up a flight of steps; go straight across another track at the top and through a gate, and then continue straight ahead into Larch Wood. The path veers right and then left, following the fence at the edge of the wood. At the top, where there is a two-way signpost (the left branch is the return), go right through a gate and across a field.

3. At the far side a gate gives access to Craigfall wood. Go through this and follow the left path at the fork. It climbs up through an area of wood badly damaged by fires; at the top is a stone enclosure with a view indicator. The outlook is excellent, stretching from the Hill of Dunnideer and Bennachie and taking in Ardmore Distillery and right round to the Tap O' Noth.

4. Continue on the path which eventually loops to the right and rejoins the outward route further down. Follow this back across the field to Larch Wood, and once through the gate continue ahead. The path winds through Larch Wood with its many fine trees before swinging back left and again rejoining the outward walk, this time just above the stable building. Head back down the track to Leith Hall and the start.
