1. From the centre of Campbeltown head up the main street and near the top turn right to follow the B842 in the direction of Southend and Machrinhanish. The road passes a large church which houses the Campbeltown Heritage Centre, and further on the creamery building where Mull of Kintyre Cheddar Cheese is made. As the road leaves the town there is a pavement on the right hand side for the first stretch.
2. Continue along the road, taking care as the traffic can be fast, to reach the village of Stewarton which has a small shop. Take the right hand fork at the road junction, following the signs for Machrihanish. The road soon crosses the Chiscan Water and passes several farms to reach the hamlet of Drumlemble.
3. Before reaching Machrihanish the road runs beside the famous Machrihanish Golf Course, seen to the right. This is a championship standard course and the first hole is said to be the finest in the world. More recently a further exclusive course has been built, Machrihanish Dunes. Beyond the golf course a vast sandy beach stretches right round the bay to West Port.
4. Continue on the road into Machrihanish. There is a choice of places to stay in this village which enjoys a picturesque location at the south end of the dune system, curving around its own sandy beach.
