Gleneck Walk, Glenbranter no. 1

1. The walk begins at the Forestry Commission car park in Glenbranter. Several circular routes are waymarked from here; this trail is marked in green. Start the walk by heading back along the entrance track to the car park. Ignore a track coming in from the left, which is used on the return, and instead continue for a couple of hundred metres to where a made path on the left is waymarked with a green marker post. Head up this path.

2. The path climbs steeply, swinging left and right in a series of zig-zags and giving improving views back over Glenbranter. A bench provides an opportunity for a rest part way up, whilst further on the path rises again up a flight of wooden steps. Looking back the view now stretches as far as the head of Loch Eck. The going levels off slightly as the path rounds an area of much sparser trees. The memorial in view on the right commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The path now curves round to the left below the steep crags of Creag Bhaogh.

3. There is another seat with grand views down through the native trees towards Loch Eck. The path climbs steeply once more before becoming a track and beginning to descend gradually. After some distance a junction is reached; turn sharp left down the track here to continue the descent.

4. At the next marked junction a path waymarked in yellow, red and blue goes off to the right - this leads eventually to the Lauder walk visiting a gorge and waterfalls which is well worth doing if you have the time. Otherwise, continue ahead down the track, ignoring another path off to the right, to eventually return to the access track for Glenbranter car park. Turn right here to return to the car.
